1. Register with the Police
All foreigners that arrive in China must register with the police. If you are staying in Shanghai apartments then they will take care of it for you, as is the case with Somerset Gubei Shanghai. It’s advisable to do it as soon as you are able.
2. Get an Orientation
Download an app that shows maps, Uber or other transport sharing apps. It’s not easy to find your way around Shanghai as it is a sporadic web of streets and alleys.
3. Go Shopping
You will find plenty of shopping experiences in Shanghai and each starkly different. There is literally nothing that you can’t find in Shanghai.
4. Banking and Mobile Phones
All Chinese banks will allow both yuan and USD accounts. If you need good credit card services, having an international back is also a good idea.
5. Communities and Food
Get to know your community and the local food. When eating out, start slow and allow your stomach to get used to the change in cuisine. Whatever your interest, you should be able to find a community to engage with.
